Care Standards Inspection Summary 2007
Tiny Beginnings is a privately owned day nursery in Monmouth town. It has been registered for one year with the present owners who are both qualified and experienced teachers who work at the nursery full time and manage the provision on a day to day basis. Their specialism in Music and Thinking skills are an asset to the nursery.

They state a firm commitment to providing a high standard of child care and education in a secure and happy environment. The owners/managers and their staff take time to build up good relationships with parents at the start of their child's placement. They have a flexible approach and encourage parents to spend time in the nursery prior to leaving their child for extended periods. They actively seek information regarding the care of their child from parents and take this into account when caring for the child. Once the placement is established parents continue to be encouraged to talk to staff at the beginning and end of each day. This was reinforced by the responses to the CSIW questionnaires as were the positive relationships with parents and the warm and nurturing environment provided for the children.
The staff show care, concern and affection for all the children and play and talk appropriately with them. They give praise and encouragement and provide the children with a supportive atmosphere encouraging children to work together and share. Children appear happy, confident and settled. They like the staff and respond well to them. The activities provided for the children are appropriate and there are opportunities for children to develop social, physical and intellectual skills.
Organisation of routines, resources and deployment of staff is good. Planning and assessment of activities ensure appropriate progression in children's learning. Staff are aware of and use the ACCAC desirable outcomes for children's learning and the owners state that the nursery is well supported by the local authority early years support teacher.
Over the last year a range of policy and procedure statements has been developed. In addition the owners have put a number of improvements into place. The nursery staff are encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge through training and are said to be given support and advice on both an informal and a formal basis.
The Nursery is a registered provider of Early Years education.
